The world is not enough. May 14, 2009

The world may not have been enough for James Bond, but it’s more than enough for our friend Ben, Silence Dogood, and Richard Saunders here at Poor Richard’s Almanac. Our SiteMeter shows us where in the world people come from when they arrive at our blog, and we are awed and honored to see just how far these cybertravelers have come. We realized that it had been a good long time since we’d thanked our distant visitors for dropping in on us here in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania, and we’d like to make amends for that.

Of the most recent visitors who have come to our blog today, in addition to all of you from across the U.S., we have honored guests from the following countries: Canada (Whitehorse, Yukon Territory; Burnaby, Vancouver, and Cumberland, British Columbia; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Toronto, Mississauga, and Ottawa, Ontario); the United Kingdom (Brighton, East Sussex; Crewe, Cheshire; Coventry; Northampton, Northamptonshire; Slough; Dartford, Kent; London; Aberdeen; and Salisbury, Wiltshire); Australia (Brisbane, Queensland; Adelaide, South Australia; and Melbourne, Victoria); Ireland (Galway and Louth); Sweden (Skvda, Vastra Gotaland); New Zealand (Auckland); Romania (Hunedoara); Latvia (Riga); Italy (Rome); South Africa (Johannesburg and Pretoria); and Egypt (Cairo). That covers quite a bit of ground!

Thanks to all of you for making us part of your day. Whether you’re as near as Bethlehem, PA (less than an hour from here) or as far as Guatemala, Sweden, or Egypt, we’re delighted to have you, and hope to see you again soon! The world is, we find, so very much more than we’d ever imagined.

Outside of Bethlehem isn’t nowhere. I’ve spent time in Easton and Schnecksville. Schnecksville, now THAT’S nowhere.

Ha!!! Well, we agree about Bethlehem, Jim—along with little Kutztown, it’s one of our favorite cities in the area and hardly would be considered nowhere by anyone. (We’ve, ahem, also been to Schnecksville.) But the only reason Bethlehem is less than an hour from us is if we jump on the freeway from our home in Berks County farm country. We can get to neighboring Amish farms faster than we can get to the nearest grocery!

This is one of my favorite blogs to read .. the only thing missing … is a few pictures here and there ? LOL
Joy from KINGSTON Ontario CANADA EH !! : )

EH is right, Joy, and thanks for the kind words!!! We wish we could post the occasional photo as well—of our beloved, goofy Linus, our darling Molly, our little Shiloh especially—but, well, we’re just clueless. That’s why we call ourselves Luddites! We have to get other people to even TAKE the pictures or we wouldn’t have any! Sigh…

It does make the world seem a more cohesive and friendly place. To bad the ‘real world’ can’t seem to get along as well as those of us here in the blogsphere.

Congrats on such a wide and varied list of visitors…you must be doing something right! Kim

Wonderful point, Kim! Maybe the blogosphere will help us all find common ground. And thanks! If you don’t have a monitor like SiteMeter for your blog, you should definitely get one. I’m sure you’d be equally awed by who’s visiting YOUR blog!

Believe it or not, I’ll be one of the people from London which is 100 miles away, rather than Salisbury which is a mere 25! It’s all to do with where your internet provider likes to put you, rather than where you actually live. Some are more accurate than others!

However, I’m always fascinated by where people pitch up from as well.

That happens to us, too, VP! Nobody bothers to position us in Maxatawny, Kutztown, or Breinigsville, the towns closest to us. We always have to guess which assignation is us! Incidentally, I went to Salisbury to see the Cathedral and, of course, Stonehenge and the chalk horses out on the Salisbury plain in my college years. I’d say you’re very lucky to live in that area!

PS ‘The World is Not Enough’ came out at the time when I was learning Spanish, so I always think of it as ‘El Mundo No Es Suficiente’ ;)

There’s also ‘Manana Nunca Muerte’. Sorry don’t know how to put the curly little bit over the n there :(

Ha!!! I know, I have no concept of how to get those accents, umlauts and etc. in there either. How humiliating. Is ‘Manana Nunca Muerte’ “Die Another Day”? I love the idea of learning another language with your tutor 007!!!
